Point Park University students — including myself — are absolutely amazed by the overwhelming support that over 700 people showed during the Day Of Giving event hosted by the school. All of the programs were being highlighted with their own chances to raise money in order to support their students in whatever way was needed. These donors definitely showed their compassion for both the university and the student body after raising the grand total amount of $131,361 across the board. With friends making donations of a single dollar to people such as Dave Duncan being willing to donate up to $20,000, the school was set with a solid foundation to move forward in ensuring these students will be able to receive the correct funding for whatever it is they may need — whether that be money for shows, travel expenses, uniforms, items to compete with, and even more.

More specifically, the athletic department shined like no other when it came to bringing in the cash. With teams such as baseball bringing in a whopping $15,924 and multiple other teams bringing in thousands for themselves, I believe it is safe to say our athletes are going to be set up for success in every way imaginable. What I find even more amazing than the compassion of family, friends, and alumni donating is the fact that there were multiple staff and faculty members that chose to do challenges and match what teams were making. Point Park Cheer and Dance got highlighted on John Ashaolu twitter for being the team to win a lunch challenge being done — a chance for the team with the most donors to be given $1,000 by staff member Julie Cryser of VP Advancement. I think this event truly did showcase what it is to be “one big team” for this school and the support will probably be felt throughout the school year due to it. I know I feel extreme pride being a part of the cheer and dance team personally to have been as successful as we were. As a team, we were able to raise an entire $3,424 to prepare for our upcoming winter season. Athletes came together to say thank you to all of the donors that are helping them jump into successful seasons and future wins with the money that will support them throughout the games and events.

Student-Athletes Gather To Say Thank You To The Donors

Students overall are extremely grateful for this school wide event and I felt the love as my own social media had flooded with the on-going support people showed. Something I found personal joy in the most during the event being held on November 18th was that everyone supported each other. I was able to witness people not only boosting their own team or program’s page for funding but, reposting and talking about other teams and programs links to be able to support them as well. Point Park University has been saying One Big Team for quite some time now but, everyone truly felt it as numbers raised everywhere. Point Park University looks forward to their next Day Of Giving event after the success of this one, excitement seeping through everyone at the way the students got the support they deserved.
